An upcycling saga

For my costume design debut, I wanted to construct a piece that embraced two of my interests: upcycling and patchwork quilting. I started with a basic canvas jacket that I thrifted, then picked out various cotton fabrics that I meticulously cut and pieced together, covering the body and sleeves of the jacket. Once the jacket was sufficiently “patchworked,” I added the original trim back onto the jacket and added three red ties, completing the jacket once and for all! This process was so much fun, and it was such a treat to construct a piece that held personal meaning to me.
